Character Scene Development

Objective: Students will exhibit their ability to develop a character and to interact with other students on stage by performing a five-minute scene with a partner.

Lesson Plans

Lesson 1: Objective Action

Students will demonstrate their understanding of character objectives by correctly writing and performing objectives in an improvisation game.

Lesson 2: Tactics

Students will demonstrate their understanding of tactics by performing a two-minute scene using three specific tactics to get their objective.

Lesson 3: Preview

Students will demonstrate their understanding of objectives, tactics, and blocking by performing a preview of their assigned five-minute scene.

Lesson 4: Previews Continued

Students will demonstrate their understanding of objectives, tactics, and blocking by performing a preview of their assigned five-minute scene.

Lesson 5: Physical Movement and Blocking

Students will show their ability to understand how physical movement affects character by designing and recording blocking that fits their character’s qualities/persona.

Lesson 6: Emotional Connection and Context

Students will demonstrate their ability to understand the context of their character (socially and emotionally) by performing an inner dialogue exercise.

Lesson 7: Awareness and Listening to React

Students will demonstrate ability to listen and react onstage by performing a two-minute improv scene.

Lesson 8: Rehearsal and Final Assessment Day

Students will exhibit their ability to develop a character and to interact with other students on stage by performing a five-minute scene with a partner.
