Costuming

Objective: Students will demonstrate a knowledge of basic costume design and history by presenting a research board and a design for a play studied by the class.

Lesson Plans

Lesson 1: Drawing Bodies

Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic body drawing by creating a body which they will use for design later.

Lesson 2: Script Analysis for Costuming

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to analyze a script for costume needs by completing a costume list for a play studied in class.

Lesson 3: Character interpretation

Students will demonstrate an understanding of character interpretation by rendering several different character bodies.

Lesson 4: Costume History

Students will demonstrate knowledge of historical costume by completing a worksheet on basic historical costume shapes.

Lesson 5: Research and Presentation boards

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to create a research board by making a research board.

Lesson 6: Drawing Fabric and Painting

Students will demonstrate an understanding of creating full costume designs by rendering clothes and painting a design.

Lesson 7: Costume shops, designers and their styles (and class presentations)

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how designers and costume shops work by completing a worksheet on designers and costume shops.
