Auditions

Objective: Students will demonstrate their ability to be effective auditioners by performing two contrasting 60 second monologues.

CONTENT STANDARD 3: Designing and producing by conceptualizing and realizing artistic interpretations for informal or formal productions.
Description: Beginning Theatre (90 minute class periods)
Previous Knowledge: How to cut monologues and scenes, and basic acting monologue techniques.
Curriculum Placement: In the first half of the year. Before the winter break.

Lesson Plans

Lesson 1: Audition Unit Introduction

Students will demonstrate an understanding of various auditions by participating in a class discussion.

Lesson 2: Guideposts 1 & 2: Relationship and Conflict

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 1 & 2 by performing in short scenes.

Lesson 3: Guideposts 3,4, & 5: Moment Before, Humor, Opposites

Students will understand the function guideposts 3,4,&5 by participating in a class room discussion.

Lesson 4: Guideposts 6,7,8: Discoveries, Communication & Competition, Importance

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 6-8 by creating and performing a scene.

Lesson 5: Guideposts 9-12: Events, Place, Game and Role Playing, Mystery and Secret

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 9-12 by participating in class discussion.

Lesson 6: Working on Monologues

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 1-6 by applying it to their performance pieces.

Lesson 7: Working on Monologues Ctd.

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 7-12 by applying it to their performance pieces.

Lesson 8: Preview Performances

Students will demonstrate their understanding of the guideposts by performing their monologues.

Lesson 9: Polishing Monologues

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 1-12 by polishing their monologues.

Lesson 10: Final Performance

Students will demonstrate understanding of guideposts 1-12 by applying it to their performance pieces.
