Objective: Students will demonstrate an understanding of acting skills by performing a duo scene.

Lesson Plans

Lesson 1: Freeing Inhibitions

Students will demonstrate their ability to free themselves of inhibitions by performing a lip synch incorporating movement, facial expressions, energy, effort to let go, and a commitment to their song.

Lesson 2: Stage Directions and Blocking

Students will demonstrate their understanding of stage directions by blocking their duo scene and writing the correct notation of their blocking in their script.

Lesson 3: Objectives and Tactics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of objectives and tactics in a scene by performing a duo scene identifying their character’s objective and implementing 3 tactics to play that objective.

Lesson 4: Character Development

Students will demonstrate an ability to develop a character and a character history by writing a character analysis paper about their character for their duo scene.

Lesson 5: Animal Imagery and Mannerisms

Students will demonstrate their understanding of a character’s physical traits by practicing animal mannerisms and applying them to their character in their duo scene.

Lesson 6: Vocal Use and Variety

Students will demonstrate their ability to use their voice by enunciating, projecting, and using at least three vocal varieties in their duo scene.

Lesson 7: Connection to Breath

Students will demonstrate an ability to connect to their breath by participating in exercises and incorporating breath connection into their monologues.

Lesson 8: Stage Pictures and Levels

Students will demonstrate their understanding of different levels (height) onstage by incorporating 3 different levels in their duo scene.

Lesson 9: Being Natural Onstage

Students will demonstrate an ability to be natural onstage by performing a real life interaction in front of the class and incorporating a similar interaction into their duo scenes.

Lesson 10: Preview Evaluation

Students will demonstrate an understanding of performance skills by previewing their duo scene for the class and fill out an observation form about what they observed in other scenes pertaining to these skills as well.

Lesson 11: Final Performance

Students will demonstrate an understanding of beginning acting skills by performing a duo scene including: being free from inhibitions, stage directions, objectives and tactics, character development, physicality, vocal use and variety, connection to breath, stage pictures and levels, and being natural onstage.
