Interpretation In Narratives

Do You See What I See?

Lesson 5—Do You See What I See?

OBJECTIVE: Students will demonstrate their understanding of interpreting a narrative by presenting a personal narrative in their chosen character.

Hook: Each student will pair up and read their narratives. However, rather than reading it as the character they will be presenting, they must read their narratives with a different character and voice.

Discuss: How did this new character make your reading different? How did it affect how your partner saw your performance? With these questions in mind, think about how you are going to perform in your character and tell the story you want your audience to hear.

Performance: Sharing “Picture This” assignments (majority of class period).

Discussion: What made you decide to write from their perspective? Were you able to empathize and embody your character? Honest performance of character gives audience believability.
