Lesson Ten: Final Assessment--Mock Auditions

Unit/Lesson Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate their ability to show contrasting characters by mock-auditioning with two monologues.

Hook: (10 minutes) Captain’s Coming

Fish out of Water—students lie on the ground and wiggle like a fish out of water

Shark Attack—swim around with your hands as a shark fin, ready to attack. “dun dun. Dun dun.”

“Three” in a Boat—can be said with any number. That count of players must stand in a line, rowing their boat.

Swab the Deck—one person stands with hands together above their head as the mop, the second player circles their arms around the “mop’s” legs as the bucket.

Octopus—4 players stand back to back and wiggle their arms, the 8 tentacles.

Crows Nest—one player jumps on another’s back, piggy back style, and flaps their arms like a crow. “Caw caw!”

Porthole—two players come together and form a vertical circle with their arms while a third player pokes their face through the porthole.

Captain’s Coming—at players freeze in salute, at attention.

At Ease—only said after captain’s coming. Releases students from attention. Serves as a “Simon Says”, does not have to be said between Captain’s Coming and another command, to eliminate.

Practice-- Give students 5 minutes practice time to run through their audition alone.

Assessment: (70 minutes)

Today is our final assessment. We’re going to perform the monologues we’ve been working on all month. Write numbers 1-21 on the board for a signup order. This will help keep flow moving.

For the remainder of the class, have students perform their slates and two monologues in audition fashion.
