Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of theatrical elements by creating a list of theatre “terms” as a group, which will be studied throughout the unit.

Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of what a Playwright, Producer, and Director are (and their jobs) by helping to create terms/definitions that they will be tested on.

Students will demonstrate a knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for all the roles/jobs in theatre by creating and performing an infomercial, and writing a short response.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of what goes into being a designer by participating in a set design project and by helping create terms/definitions to be tested on.

Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of acting by participating in improv games and helping create a definition for their quiz.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of who a Dramaturg is by participating and presenting research done for a film clip.

Students will continue work in groups on their pieces of stock scenery. These may be completed in class.

Students will learn about and become familiar with different types of wood and cuts of lumber and their use in set construction. They will also learn about different types and techniques of painting and its use in theatre.

Students will learn about the three basic types of stock scenery—flats, platforms, and stairs. They will become familiar with the names and pieces of the scenery and learn about measuring the dimensions for the construction of each type of scenery. They will begin work in groups on a piece of stock scenery.

Students will complete any unfinished construction projects. They will demonstrate their understanding of basic construction tools (practical) and safety(written) in a quiz.

Students will gain an understanding of the evolution of theatre scenery and construction. They will become familiar with the safety guidelines inherent and necessary in set construction.

The BYU Theatre Education Database (TEDb) is designed to help educators who are currently teaching theatre in the school systems to cultivate stronger classroom curriculum and lesson plans. The database and website are hosted by the Department of Theatre and Media Arts (TMA) at Brigham Young University and managed by the BYU Theatre Education Program. Most of the curriculum on the database has been submitted voluntarily by university pre-service teachers as part of their classwork in Theatre Education courses. Some curriculum has been submitted following successful student teaching practicums in secondary education field schools and by veteran teachers.

Curriculum units in 'Acting In Stuff' focus on a specific final product such as monologues, scenes, auditions, ensemble performance, etc. While various acting skills and techniques are included as part of lesson instruction, the unit builds to a specific final product.

Students will demonstrate their ability to accept and add by participating in an approximately 2 minute improvised scene with a partner where they must accept and add.

Students will demonstrate their ability to trust their impulses by participating in a ring master scene.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of how to use improv in a monologue by using improv techniques in a minute to minute and a half monologue.

Students will demonstrate their ability to understand tone of voice by participating in the activities, choosing a poem, and beginning to work on it.
